Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew: A pilgrimage visit to Kavala

The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew arrived in Kavala on Saturday to make an official visit.

In his visit to Thassos and Kavala, the Ecumenical Patriarch is flanked by the Archbishop of Athens Hieronymos and the Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Epiphanios.

The Patriarchal Commissioner was appointed the Metropolitan of Geron Derko, Mr. Apostolos, who escorted His Holiness from the airport of the City.

The Ecumenical Patriarch arrived at the airport “M. Alexandros”, in Chrysoupoli Kavala in the morning.

He and his entourage were welcomed by the relevant Metropolitan Stefanos of Philippi, while the Government was represented by the Minister of Defence Nikos Panagiotopoulos.

As the Metropolitan of Philippi, Neapolis and Thassos Stefanos announced, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, the Archbishop of Athens Hieronymos and the Metropolitan of Kiev will be in Kavala and Thassos.

The highly symbolic pilgrimage will take place from Saturday until September 6 and is to mark the first official celebration of the Church of the Saints of Thassos.
