It’s hard labour for Ed Miliband as he strives to get fit for purpose.

At one point, the leader of the Opposition seemed to roll his eyes skywards for inspiration as his personal trainer put him through his paces.

And he put a hand to his head to wipe his brow as he felt the impact of the workout near his £1.5million North London home.

The Labour leader, 42, has been battling to get in shape since last year when he hired his personal trainer for sessions three times a week.

Observers say he is in better physical shape than he used to be.

As well as regular jogging, he is said to have increased his fruit consumption and swapped full fat lattes for macchiatos to help him lose weight.

But it is clearly a case of ‘no pain, no gain’ to maintain that impressively lithe physique – and he looked exhausted compared to his muscular trainer, who was able to take it all in his stride.
