TCP : Building an industrial city with Egyptian investment in Ethiopia will be a priority in the agenda of Ethiopian-Egyptian Supreme Committee, Youm7 quoted Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn as saying during a Tuesday meeting with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi.
Sisi said at the meeting that Egypt is seeking to establish river and land routes to Ethiopia to facilitate trade, as the relations of the two countries should not be limited to “the Nile and the [Renaissance] Dam,” Youm7 reported.
“Come to Egypt and we will allocate venues for you as an outlet for Ethiopia to the outside world from the logistic sites we are establishing,” Sisi said, addressing Ethiopian businessmen who attended the meeting.
On Monday, Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan inked an agreement on the controversial Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in Khartoum.
Several economic agreements between the two African states will be signed during Sisi’s three-day visit to Addis Ababa, ending with a speech at the Ethiopian parliament Wednesday by the Egyptian president, informed sources told Youm7.
Also at the meeting, some 38 Egyptian businessmen with investments in Ethiopia called on Sisi to establish a free trade zone between the two countries and use means other than airplanes to export goods.
Sisi noted that with 250 million people in Egypt and Ethiopia, the two countries constitute a large market ready for heavy investments, as “our people want to develop, improve their standards of living and achieve their ambitions for a dignified life.”
Desalegn also chanted “long live the Ethiopian-Egyptian friendship” during the meeting, according to Youm7.
