Elderly Swan Hill man’s death examined by homicide squad

POLICE are on the hunt for a brutal killer who murdered a father inside his Swan Hill home in Victoria.

The 64-year old was found dead in the lounge of his Harrison Cres home about 4.30pm yesterday.

He had sustained head injuries but the cause of his death is yet to be determined.

Homicide Squad detectives are appealing for information on the whereabouts of the victim’s car.

The car is believed to be a white 1991 Toyota Camry station wagon with registration YJN 657.

Det Sgt Graham Ross said the victim was last seen alive inside the car on Tuesday afternoon.

“We need to find that car. Once we find that car it will really help us with the investigation,’’ he said.

Sgt Ross said the victim was known to have regular visitors at his home, but would not elaborate.

“He lives alone, he’s got people coming and going from his address,’’ he said.

The dead man is the father of a 10-year old son who did not live with him.

His body was discovered by a Department of Human Services worker who had gone to check on his welfare after days without contact.

Sgt Ross said the man did not appear to have had any known enemies and police had no suspects.

“We’re obviously speaking to the neighbours and following up some information that they’re giving us but there is no clear direction we’re going in at the moment,’’ he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
