“As noted previously, Max Schrems of Europe Versus Facebook has filed numerous complaints about Facebook’s data collection practices. One complaint that has failed to draw much scrutiny regards Facebook’s creation of Shadow Profiles. ‘This is done by different functions that encourage users to hand personal data of other users and non-users to Facebook… (e.g. synchronizing mobile phones, importing personal data from e-mail providers, importing personal information from instant messaging services, sending invitations to friends or saving search queries when users search for other people on facebook.com). This means that even if you don’t use it, you may already have a profile on Facebook.’”

maybe they’ll like the shadow profile of my middle finger..
FACE (they want a pic) BOOK (they’ll write one with volunteered info)
was created by the FBI-CIA-DHS etc, not some zuckerberg kid like the movie tells it.
same for microsoft, created by the same IBM that gave hitler mechanical computers to generate the numeric values to tattoo into concentration camp inmates! IBM was worried about class action monompoly anti-trust lawsuits, the same kind microsoft faced just a few years later!
“the pirates of silicon valley” movie, is complete BS.
I think facebook, microsoft, google, DHS-TSA-FBI-CIA, all need to be shut down.
i don’t like this at all. i purposely didn’t create a face book profile because i know what a face book is (for clarity it’s a book filled with mugshots of criminals). now people too dumb to know are scewing me? i don’t “like this” one bit.
Does anybody have any idea how a person could search the internet to find his/her shadow profile?
Just when you think you’ve avoided all the little internet social “traps”, you get your information posted anyhow. Great……

Just waiting to see if YAHOO starts doing the same thing!
As soon as I learn of it, my YAHOO account is HISTORY too!
yes, I saw that when I attempted to create a profile myself, turns out it already existed
This is how they get your roommate, live-in, or any friends of yours who still use FACE(LESS)CROOKS to become part of the “data-mining” operations!
I think I will be having a little talk with a few associates of mine! THIS is going to be stopped, one way or another!
what you can do about all this is create an account on your name, on facebook, with a bogus IP (behind a proxy) and just filling it in with bogus data.

Don’t forget to upload a mugshot from uglypeople.com to use as your profile pic.
lol
You sound surprised every time a new article suggests or proves sone company, agency, or individual is goin on a power trip. If there was income equality in the world where it was deemed lawful to investigate ppl who made billions or trillions, power trips would be petty, discouraged, and punished. Crooked politicians and business individuals need to be imprisoned without bail and their income given to fix their misdeeds. When crooked ‘kings’ rule, cons run wild
America needs more true patriots or it will fall victim to the demagouges destroying it
FB poses SERIOUS privacy issues…How do you think that SCUM BAG Zuckerman made his BILLIONS??? By having a free and clear honest place for people to go and let everyone know what they’re doing, where they live ETC.?
The whole idea was to get everyone”s personal info and SELL EVERYONE ON FB DOWN THE RIVER!!!!!
If your still on FB….you get what you deserve……
even my government(netherlands) says facebook is going to far and is seeking to take legal action
lets all start creating “shadow” profiles of non existing users, to flood their databases with crap
Anyone who’s on FB is part of the problem.
