A fifth security guard has been arrested over the alleged bashing of a teenager in the basement of an exclusive Sydney nightclub.

Police say a 19-year-old was ejected from the Ivy nightclub last weekend and confronted by a group of security staff.

Patron Nicholas Barsoum was allegedly separated from his friends then held down and gagged with a vest while bouncers punched and kicked him repeatedly.

It is alleged the bouncers took him to the basement where he was assaulted further.

The 19-year-old man received severe facial injuries and was left with internal bleeding from the attack.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested and joins four other security guards facing a charge of grievous bodily harm with intent.

In response to the incident, the New South Wales Government has announced plans for a special police unit to supervise the security industry.
