Former Pennsylvania cop charged with assault after pulling gun on innocent man

Accused of pulling a gun at a man
mowing his lawn and firing two shots near him, a retired Pennsylvania police
officer was recently charged with carrying a firearm without a permit,
discharging a firearm, simple assault, and reckless endangerment of another
person.

According to arrest
records
, former Plum Borough police officer Dennis Daugherty returned to
his duplex home to find James Yetka, who is a tenant in the duplex, mowing his
lawn. Shortly after Daugherty and Yetka began arguing, the retired cop
allegedly attempted to strike Yetka with his knee.

Instead, Yetka managed to push
Daugherty to the ground in an act of self-defense. Standing up and pulling a
gun from his waistband, Daugherty reportedly began walking toward Yetka while
aiming the firearm at him in a threatening manner.

Moments later, Daugherty abruptly fired
two shots at the ground in close proximity to Yetka, according to the criminal
complaint. Yetka’s girlfriend told WPXI
that she is afraid to return to the home due to Daugherty’s actions.

Although Daugherty is not currently
in jail, the former officer is scheduled to appear in court. He has been
charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, discharging a firearm, simple
assault, and reckless endangerment of another person.
