Simpsonville Police say they have arrested a man in connection to an armed robbery at Bank of America.
Police say a middle-aged male entered the Bank of America located on Fairview Road Saturday morning and handed the bank teller a note that stated he was armed. After demanding money and obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled the scene in an unknown direction.
On Saturday night police identified the suspect as Richard Edward Inman, who is a former chief of the Williamston Police Department.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said deputies along with Georgia State Patrol received a BOLO regarding Inman’s vehicle on Sunday. Around 12:30 p.m., deputies said they were able to locate the suspect vehicle and initiate a felony traffic stop on I-85 south near mile marker 164.
Deputies said Inman produced a Georgia driver’s license with a Calhoun address.
He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Franklin County Detention Center where he awaited extradition to South Carolina and charged with armed robbery.
At a bond hearing in Simpsonville on Tuesday, Inman was given a $100,000 cash or surety bond. He also signed up with a home incarceration program for when he is released on bond.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said search warrants are being served in connection with property Inman had in his possession at the time of the traffic stop.
