‘General Hospital’ recap and commentary: Up in smoke

What could possibly be worse than walking into a room and finding your son in bed with your enemy? How about walking in on another son with another women you can’t stand. On the September 25 episode of “General Hospital”, Carly (Laura Wright) had a case of deja vu as she walked in and found Ava (Maura West) in a hotel room with her half naked son Morgan (Bryan Craig).

Although Carly owns the Metro Court, she really doesn’t have the right to barge into hotel rooms, but she did once again and like the time she barged into Brenda’s room and found her in bed with Michael, she didn’t like what she saw when she decided to let herself into Ava’s room. After a night of passion, Morgan woke up in Ava’s bed. Ava instantly told Morgan that what they did was a mistake and dreaded his mother Carly finding out about what happened. Right on cue Carly was outside the door. Ava attempted to hide Morgan but he didn’t seem to mind Carly walking in and finding him in the bed of the woman she despises, but finally she convinced him to hide just in time for Carly to let herself in the room.

Carly instantly blamed Ava for Sonny’s behavior that caused him to hurt Morgan. When she heard a noise in the room, Carly assumed Ava was hiding Franco (Roger Howarth) but was surprised when Morgan walked out and admitted to sleeping with Ava. Carly went right after Ava calling her a “bitch” and a predator. Their little cat fight was interrupted by Morgan telling Carly that Ava is the only one he could trust and that his family are the ones who stabbed him in the back. This didn’t sit well with Carly who vowed to kick Ava out of her hotel room. After she left, Morgan and Ava shared another intimate moment.

The reason Morgan was even in Ava’s bed was because he lost his wife Kiki (Kristen Alderson) to his brother Michael (Chad Duell). Both Michael and Kiki woke up in the Metro Court where they fell asleep talking and confessing their love for one another the night before. Michael told Kiki that he was glad the truth came out despite how much it may hurt Morgan. Kiki feels a bit more guilt because she feels she told Morgan what he wanted to hear. She led him on but also admitted she has no regrets about her and Michael now being together. She does feel that the cards are stacked against them because there are people who don’t want them together. In the meantime, Kiki realized that she has nowhere to go and Michael asked her to move in with him which she declined. Despite her negative feelings towards her mother, she felt the best thing was for her to stay with Ava. Of course at the end of the episode, Michael and Kiki walks into Ava’s room to find her in bed with Morgan which will set off more fireworks. If relationships weren’t up in smoke already, they certainly will be now that Morgan has been found sexing up Kiki’s mother.

At the hospital, Carlos (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) looked on as Patrick (Jason Thompson) and Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) had a family moment. Sabrina told Patrick that he had nothing to worry about when it came to Carlos because there is nothing left between them. She told him that he has a lot to offer that Patrick can’t. Later Sabrina walked into an exam room to find Carlos who wanted her to bandage up his wounds. Sabrina, uneasy with his physical closeness to her and the fact that he was shirtless, told Carlos that she didn’t want to go down that road again and as he got even closer to her, Patrick walked in to see them close together. Will this be enough to draw out Patrick’s jealousy?

Elsewhere in Port Charles, Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) walked up on Derek (William deVry) at Kelly’s as he marveled at the front page of his newspaper. After a little back and forth about career choices, Derek told Alexis that she likes to play down and dirty more than he does and referenced her recent relationship with Shawn who he was introduced to moments later. Alexis then pulled Shawn to the side asking about the explosion because she still cares about him. Shawn told Alexis that the name of the person behind it all was “Julian Jerome” which made her do a double take as Derek looked on. At the Metro Court, Diane informed Franco that he is broke because his assets have been frozen by the state of New York. She suggested to him that he start selling his art to make money. Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and Lulu (Emme Rylan) woke up together with the baby. They both have to get her ready for her christening. As Olivia arrived, they had to tell her they haven’t picked god parents yet.
