Google denies deal to jointly monitor YouTube videos with Israel: Zio-Watch, December 1, 2015

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad says Turkey downed a Russian jet over Syria because Moscow has turned the tide against foreign-sponsored militants in the Arab country.

The downing of the warplane “has shown the real intention of [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan who, let’s say, lost his nerve just because the Russian intervention has changed the balance on the ground,” said Assad during an interview with the Czech Television channel broadcast on Tuesday.

Russia began airstrikes on Daesh positions in Syria on September 30 at the request of the Syrian government.

On November 24, Turkey shot down the Russian Su-24 bomber, which it claimed had entered its airspace – an allegation Russia strongly rejects.

The “failure” of Erdogan’s “terrorist groups means his political demise,” he added in the interview which was conducted in the Syrian capital Damascus.

Assad also said that peace would only return to Syria when “France, the UK, the US, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and some others stop supporting terrorists.”

The fight, which broke out at a shelter at the disused Tempelhof airport, erupted while lunch was being served.

“There were apparently many hundreds of people involved,” a police spokesperson told Reuters.

A total of 830 refugees and migrants were present at the facility, and around 20 or 30 people caused the disruption, according to Michael Elias, who is in charge of the shelter.

“It’s the simple fact that there are a lot of young men traveling alone here. We withdrew…because the situation simply exploded. It was a complete blow-out,” Elias said.

An unspecified number of arrests were made after around 100 police officers arrived at the scene to restore order.

It came just hours after a brawl at a separate refugee shelter in the Berlin suburb of Spandau forced 500 residents to flee the building in “fear and panic.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday acknowledged the Israel Air Force operates in Syria “from time to time” to thwart weapons transfers to Lebanon.

Speaking at the Galilee Conference in Acre, the prime minister praised the Israeli-Russian coordination in Syria, echoing comments from his defense minister in recent days.

“We operate in Syria from time to time to prevent it turning into another front against us. We act, of course, to prevent the transfer of deadly weaponry from Syria to Lebanon,” Netanyahu said.

Israeli airstrikes in Syria have been widely reported over the last nearly-five years of the country’s civil war, though officials have refused to confirm them on the record.

Omer Bar-Lev outlines steps to ‘keep Israel Jewish and democratic’; Likud’s Avi Dichter calls proposal unrealistic

Zionist Union legislator Omer Bar-Lev unveiled a new unilateral plan to separate from the Palestinians, featuring compensation for settlers living outside the main settlement blocs and the transfer of some Israeli-controlled West Bank land.

The idea was quickly criticized by a Likud MK as unrealistic.

“I don’t plan to discuss again the question of the existence of a Palestinian partner and how the average Palestinian educates his children,” said Bar-Lev, a former commander of the IDF’s elite Sayeret Matkal (General Reconnaissance) unit, at a Knesset press conference on Monday. “I understand that there will be some who will disagree with me, but I am not ready to put the future of the Jewish democratic state into the hands of the Palestinians.”

The four-part plan, titled “Separation: Putting a Border on the Conflict,” is meant as a way for Israel to move forward on the diplomatic and security front without needing to depend on the Palestinians, he said.

The first part of the plan calls for an immediate end to West Bank building outside of the large settlement blocs which are expected to stay under Israeli sovereignty in any potential agreement with the Palestinians.

(JTA) — Academy Award winner and activist Sean Penn, in Israel for the first time, credited the Israeli international relief organization IsraAID for the success of his humanitarian efforts in earthquake-ravaged Haiti.

Penn was the keynote speaker Monday at an IsraAID conference in Tel Aviv.

“The indirect impact of IsraAID is that everything that JP/HRO [Penn’s Haiti relief effort] has accomplished would not have existed without the inspiration and support that they provided,” he said at the conference, according to Israel21C.
