Grandma With Cancer Forced to Miss Chemo After Being Jailed for THC in Her System

WITCHITA, KS — A distressing report has surfaced according to which a grandmother in need of chemotherapy was prevented from receiving it because she was jailed for marijuana.

Angela Kastner suffers from colorectal cancer and occasionally takes Marinol to relieve symptoms like nausea and lack of appetite.

The amount of Marinol she was taking was so low that it was not enough to make her high, but just enough to leave traces of THC in her bloodstream.

The medication is FDA-approved and legal, and it was prescribed by her doctor.

“I had … Marinol in my system that the doctors in Oklahoma gave me to fight cancer. I’ve been fighting cancer 5 years,” she said.

Evidently she was apprehended by police when she was driving, and after finding THC in her system she was sentenced to two days in jail.

The time she must spend in jail is forcing her to miss a critical chemotherapy session, and will result in her having to start the entire treatment from the beginning.

“I feel sorry for the next cancer patient who has to go through anything I have had to go through. They shouldn’t have to do this at the end of their life.”
