nsnbc : The discovery of habitable planets or exoplanets is bad news for humanity said Oxford University scientist Andrew Snyder-Beattie, Their discovery increases the probability of near-term human extinction, he postulates. No, not because of an alien threat, it’s rather their absence that has Snyder-Beattie worried; But then again, others say they are already here but you are not allowed to know about it because you can’t handle the truth.

The Oxford scientist postulates that the discovery of exoplanets slightly increases the probability of near-term human extinction. The presence of the planets, combined with the apparent absence of highly advanced alien civilizations, supports a concept known as “The Great Filter”.

The Great Filter is a concept that was proposed as a possible explanation for the apparent paradox that arises due to the discovery that exoplanets which could harvest life are relatively abundant, while we apparently have not discovered any technologically advanced civilizations.

Snyder-Beattie postulates that this absence of thriving extraterrestrial civilizations suggests that at least one of the steps from a humble, planet-bound civilization to an interstellar civilization is exceedingly unlikely to be overcome.

The Oxford scientists stressed that although astro-biologists state that life could be very common in the universe, the intelligence needed to achieve the ability to create advanced technology may be extremely rare. Some astro-biologists postulate that intelligent life has a tendency to auto-extinction, he added.

Evaluating any hypothesis, it is always advisable to remember how long time it was ago that scientists postulated that it was utterly impossible to build a heavier than air flying machine; how long time has passed since people were burnt for saying that the Earth is round or not the center of the universe. Something that never fails to amuse me is that neurologists, not too long ago, discovered that they had missed about 90 percent of the brain. How do you believe, people will think about “Dark Matter”, a 200 years from now.

The world’s nuclear weapons arsenal and its potential; the environmental impact of the disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan, give credence to postulates about The Great Filter. Life in itself is rather abundant throughout the universe and alien lifeforms are visiting Earth; they are present in Earth’s stratosphere, claim Sheffield scientists. The “aliens” which the Sheffield researchers discovered are, however, not intelligent or technologically advanced. It is the discovery of alien life, even here on Earth, that lends additional credence to “The Great Filter”, would some say.

Yet, others again, claim that there is not only intelligent, highly technologically advanced life “out there”. The extraterrestrials have been visiting earth for thousands of years and we have contact with them on a regular basis, said Dr. Steven Greer, the head of the “Disclosure Project“. Unbelievable ? Fringe? Well, let’s burn him at the stake, then, right?

Unbelievable maybe but fringe? Definitely not. Greer has been working as adviser for President Bill Clinton and CIA Director Wolsey on the issue. Moreover, the Disclosure Project has some 500 first hand witnesses and no, they don’t belong to any fringe either. Witnesses include civilian and military pilots, high-ranking military officers, astronauts, cutting edge scientists, scientists from unacknowledged, compartmentalized “deep black” research projects, and many other with impeccable background and qualifications.

So why don’t we hear about it? To maintain the status quo? Because the technologies involved would make our fossil fuel based economies combust within a split-second? Because a civilization that has survived an evolution to a state where it can engage in inter-stellar or even inter-dimensional travel also has advanced enough to know that them, suddenly landing on the White House lawn, the Red Square and Tienanmen Square would have devastating consequences for our oh-so-fragile ego?

What ever you believe, it’s worth giving it a thought, next time you can take some time out and wonder if the truth really is out there. Judge for yourself, keep an open mind, not so open that the brain falls out. You’ll recognize the truth when you see it.
