Purim (/ˈpʊərɪm/; Hebrew: About this soundAbout this sound פּוּרִיםPûrîmlots“, from the word פור pur, related to Akkadian: pūru) is a Jewish holiday that commemorates the saving of the Jewish people from Haman, who was planning to kill all the Jews. This took place in the ancient Persian Empire. The story is recorded in the BiblicalBook of Esther (Megillat Ester מגילת אסתר in Hebrew).

According to the Book of Esther, Haman, royal vizier to King Ahasuerus/Achashverosh (presumed to be Artaxerxes I of Persia, “Artakhsher” in Old Persian), planned to kill all the Jews in the empire, but his plans were foiled by Mordecai and his cousin and adopted daughter Esther, who had risen to become Queen of Persia. The day of deliverance became a day of feasting and rejoicing.

Based on the conclusions of the Scroll of Esther (Esther 9:22): “[…] that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.” Purim is therefore celebrated among Jews by:

Other customs include drinking wine or any other alcoholic beverage, wearing of masks and costumes, and public celebration.

Purim is celebrated annually according to the Hebrew calendar on the 14th day of the Hebrew month of Adar (and on Adar II in Hebrew leap years that take place every 2 to 3 years), the day following the victory of the Jews over their enemies. In cities that were protected by a surrounding wall at the time of the Biblical Joshua, Purim is instead celebrated on the 15th of the month of Adar on what is known as Shushan Purim, since fighting in the walled city of Shushan continued through the 14th day of Adar. Today, only Jerusalem and a few other cities celebrate Purim on the 15th of Adar.

Metapedia:

Jewish ritual murder, popularly referred to by deniers as Blood libel, is the alleged murder of a non-Jew by Jews in celebration of the Jewish religious festivals of Purim and Passover. The ritual’s argued purpose is to drain the blood of a non-Jewish person (preferrably a young Christian boy) in order to make three cornered Purim pastries or matzo.

Accusations of Jewish ritual murders have a long history.

One of the earliest accusations of ritual murder by the Jews comes from the Greek historian Apion of Alexandria. Apion–a harsh critic of the Jews–had been labeled the Theodor Fritsch of his time.[2] Apion claimed the Jews had a secret teaching that once a year they were to kidnap a Greek, fatten him for slaughter, and then eat his entrails pledging their never-ending hatred toward the Greek (Aryan) people. The accusation was apparently widespread forcing the noted Jewish historian Josephus to answer him in a rebuttal known as Against Apion.

Recently in Italy, Ariel Toaff, an Israeli university professor controversially published the book Ebrei d’Europa e Pasque di Sangue (European Jews and Blood Easters) where he hypothesized that some accusations of the past against Jews for their rituals were true. He was harshly criticized and had to call his book off. Israel Shamir was among the few who supported his research. The focus is set on the figure of 2-year-old Saint Simon of Trento, also called Simonino da Trento, who was kidnapped and murdered by Jews. His body was found in a cellar of a Jewish owned house in Trento, Italy by local magistrates. There was even an eye-witness. Eight Jews were sentenced to death and executed in late June 1475.
