Health Minister: Congo Fever fully controlled

IRNA — Congo Fever in Iran is fully under control and the rate of the infection, compared to a few weeks ago, is subdued, said the Minister of Health on Saturday.

Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi assured that new Congo Fever cases would not most likely be seen, or there would be rare cases. ‘No reason to worry.’

Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a disease caused by a tick-borne virus. Symptoms include fever, muscle pain, dizziness, neck pain and stiffness, backache, headache, sore eyes and photophobia.

“This does not mean, however, that people should not observe health advices and buy meat from unauthorized centers,’ the minister added.

Thirty one cases of Congo Fever are so far confirmed in Iran. Three infected people died.

Another way of infection, beside the tick bite is contact to blood or other fluids of the infected people or animals.
