Melbourne Heart‘s efforts to improve their squad ahead of the 2013-14 season continued on Wednesday when the club announced the signing of Rob Wielaert.

Wielaert joins from Roda JC but the defender has been all over the Dutch Eredivisie playing at the two biggest clubs PSV and Ajax as well as a stint at FC Twente but spent four years, his longest stint at one club at NEC where he managed 145 matches.
The 34 year old brings a wealth of experience at the highest level to the club having played in the Champions League and captained FC Twente in the Europa League.
The scouting on Wielaert was thorough with John Aloisi personally flying out to Holland to scout the veteran in May and was very impressed.
Aloisi was pleased to get Wielaert saying in a press release, ‘Wielaert has superb pedigree and his experience at the top level is very impressive.”
For Wielaert it’s his first club outside Holland and he is excited about the prospect “it is an exciting time to play abroad, so when Melbourne heart contacted me, I was enthusiastic immediately.” he said in a press release.
Wielaert is the third foreigner on the roster at Melbourne Heart and could well prove another shrewd deal as he was brought to the club without a transfer fee after his contract was not renewed.
