As tasty as it is, you may want to avoid Heinz ketchup because of what’s hiding in its ingredients.

Heinz Ketchup has recently been banned in Israel from calling its product ketchup as it doesn’t include enough tomatoes. But there are more reasons why you should be cautious about this product.

As tasty as it is, you may want to avoid Heinz ketchup. Over the past few years, there has been increased interest from the public in avoiding processed foods. Research has shown that processed, packaged foods often contain unhealthy toxins and chemicals. More people are making the switch from processed to organic food.

While many people are trying to give up processed foods, condiments often fly under the radar – including ketchup. Before you grab a bottle of ketchup, look at these 3 research-backed reasons to avoid Heinz ketchup.

#1 – It Contains High Fructose Corn Syrup

At the top of the list for reasons to avoid Heinz ketchup is the fact that it contains high fructose corn syrup. In fact, it is loaded with the ingredient.

High fructose corn syrup is a harmful and toxic ingredient that is made from heavily genetically modified corn. Once metabolized by your body, it can lead to a sharp spike in your blood sugar levels and may even damage your liver.

There has been plenty of research to show that regular consumption of high fructose corn syrup can lead to an increased risk of heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. It can also weaken your immune system.

In a recent test of high fructose corn syrup, it was found to contain high levels of mercury. Mercury is an extremely toxic heavy metal. For this and the other reasons listed, many doctors are now recommending that the public avoid any food that contains high fructose corn syrup.

#2 – It Contains Distilled Vinegar and Sugar

Another reason to avoid Heinz ketchup is that it contains distilled vinegar and sugar. There are 4 grams of sugar per serving. Each serving is one tablespoon. Just one small tablespoon and you would be getting an unhealthy amount of sugar for a single meal.

Distilled vinegar is also unhealthy, coming from genetically modified corn, just like high fructose corn syrup. This GMO corn is grown with the use of toxic pesticides and chemicals. There is no health benefit from consuming the distilled vinegar or the large serving of sugar. In fact, even the sugar comes from GMO’s – most likely GMO beet sugar.

Consuming large amounts of sugar without any amount of fiber or any other nutritional value has been shown to drastically increase blood sugar levels. It can also damage your pancreas and liver.

#3 – Heinz Ketchup Has No Nutritional Value

The final reason to avoid Heinz ketchup is that it has no nutritional value. There is no fiber, protein, or any nutrition. It does contain a small amount of tomato paste, which has an almost microscopic amount of cooked lycopene.

Essentially, Heinz ketchup is comprised of nothing but sugar, chemicals, and GMO’s. There is no redeeming value to the product. While you should avoid Heinz ketchup, you should probably also avoid any other condiments with a similarly complicated list of ingredients.

Instead of using ketchup, there are plenty of healthy options for making your own dip or spread. Avoid Heinz ketchup and make your own condiments or look for healthy, GMO-free ketchup with natural ingredients.
