A wounded lioness almost had her entire leg ripped off when a male buffalo gored her.

But emergency veterinarians came to her aid in the middle of the Masai Mara Nature Reserve in Kenya. When they heard about Siena’s life-threatening and incredibly painful injuries, the staff at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust sprung into action.

The specialists normally dealt with elephant injuries, but they had to act quickly if the lioness was going to be saved.

They were flown from Nairobi to the nature reserve where they successfully patched the lioness up.
