Husband finds wife crushed by car in driveway

A husband screamed when he came home to find his wife trapped under a car on their driveway in southern Sydney this afternoon, a neighbour says.

The woman, 64, was standing in front of her garage at her house on Karnu Place, Kareela, when the brakes of the car – believed to be a four-door Ford sedan – released and it rolled down the driveway about noon, a police spokeswoman said.

The woman was hit by the car and trapped under it, the spokeswoman said.

She died shortly after.

“My mum said he came home, parked opposite and screamed when he saw her feet under the car,” the neighbour, who asked not to be named, said.

“The garage door was dented [by the impact].”

The neighbour said the woman lived with her husband and their dog at the house. They had children who were adults and lived elsewhere, the neighbour added.

The driveway of the house was about five to six metres long, the neighbour said.

The spokeswoman said police were preparing a report for the coroner.
