Mitch Daniels, the Governor of Indiana, is currently in Israel as part of an eight-day trip that began on Tuesday.
Jane Jankowski, Daniels’ press secretary, described the trip as “personal” and a “vacation” and said it is not a trade mission.
However, he is expected to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as leaders of Israeli businesses. Daniels will also visit a number of cultural and religious sites as he plans to celebrate Easter in Jerusalem.
The trip is described as “low-profile” relative to a similar trip taken by Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey, which attracted far more media attention. Both Republicans have been mentioned as potential vice presidential nominees.
The trip is being paid for by the Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis.
