The Queensland Floods Commission of Inquiry is to hear from Brisbane residents concerned about the way in which their insurers handled their flood claims.
The inquiry will also hear on Thursday from Rio Tinto Coal Australia environmental services manager Stuart Ritchie about the process of discharging water from tailings dams.
More than two million people were affected and 35 killed when 70 per cent of the state flooded in January.
The process of evacuating Brisbane was on Wednesday described as “a rather messy business”.
Witnesses explained how roads became clogged and drains overflowed.
A Brisbane City Council employee told the inquiry the stormwater pipe network needed to be inspected more regularly.
The inquiry handed down its interim findings in August and will deliver its final report in February.
