Secretary General of Iran’s Olympics Committee Bahram Afsharzadeh said in the weakened that the British government has refused to grant visas to Iranian spectators who had planned to visit London for the 2012 Olympics.
Abbassi warned the British side that it would be ill-advised to break the international norms in connection with the Games.
“We do not know what restrictions Britain wants to impose on its guests but we [should] warn them about [respecting] the international norms,” he said.
The minister further said he does not “expect” such measures by Britain or any other Olympic host.
“Every [Olympic] host must show its eligibility for hosting international contests and hosting the tourists … is no exception to the matter,” he added.
Abbasi’s warning comes after he and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced they would not attend the London Olympics.
Their decision followed revelations that Olympic athletes and their coaches have to go through finger-printing and face-scanning processes upon entering into Britain for the Games.
