On Wednesday, armed groups attacked the headquarters of Al-Ikhbaria TV in a suburban area of the Syrian capital of Damascus.
Syrian Information Minister Omran al-Zohbi said Wednesday that seven staffers of Al-Ikhbaria TV were killed in the assault, while an unspecified number of others were wounded. He added that the attackers also kidnapped several others.
“All international laws and regulations place emphasis on the necessity to support and protect the free dissemination of information and freedom of expression,” Mehmanparast said on Thursday.
He added that such violent actions would not disrupt the flow of information for the people of Syria and the world about the realities of the Arab country.
The Iranian spokesperson called on international institutions and circles, which defend the freedom of expression and rights of the press, to condemn such an inhumane move.
Syria has been the scene of unrest since mid-March, 2011.
The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of killing protesters. But Damascus blames ”outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” for the unrest, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.
