Iran to continue sending military advisers to Syria, Iraq: DM

“We will help Syria and Iraq as much as we can because parts of the Islamic community have been under attack and we are defending (them),” General Dehqan said in a meeting in Tehran.

He added that the Islamic Republic deploys military advisers to these countries in a bid to defend Islamic countries as “Islam and Muslim nations are important to us.”

Iran, a close ally of Syria and Iraq, has been supporting Damascus and Baghdad in the fight against terrorists.

Tehran has made it clear that its assistance to the two countries is confined to consultation and advisory help.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian defense minister referred to the ongoing clashes between the Syrian army and Takfiri terrorists in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, saying the city has a strategic situation.

“Eventually, the occupied territories in Aleppo will be liberated (from the terrorists) by the Resistance Front,” Dehqan stressed.

Daesh terrorists have been losing ground in both Syria and Iraq, where they have been involved in a campaign of terror over the past years.

The militant group has tried to remain on the offensive by carrying out devastating terror bombings, including in the Iraqi capital Baghdad and Syrian towns.

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura estimates that over 400,000 people have been killed in the Syrian conflict that started in March 2011.
