Iran to replace divers with robots

Sputnik– Iranian students successfully designed and constructed a robot for working underwater.

Students from Sharif University of Technology in Teheran won first prize at a recent scientific festival “Sea – The Strategy of Development” in the remote controlled underwater vehicle category for their development, Iranian news agency ISNA reported.

According to the report, the new vehicle is a transport unmanned robot controlled remotely by an operator.

The robot can be used for underwater exploration and submarine inspection. It can reduce the risk of occupational injuries by replacing human divers at deep-water works and other operations. The robot weighs only 3 kg and can be easily transported. Its integrated camera is designed for underwater video shooting. Moreover, numerous sensors can be installed in the vehicle.
