Iran, Turkey review enhanced banking ties

Tehran, April 8, IRNA – Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mahmoud Vaezi and Turkish Governor of the Central Bank Erdem Basci met on Friday during which they discussed expansion of bilateral banking relations between the private and public sectors.

On a visit to Ankara to attend the Iran-Turkey Joint Economic Commission, Vaezi told Basci that Iran welcomes enhanced banking ties with neighboring Turkey.

Following removal of sanctions, he said, Iran’s banking system is ready to promote cooperation so that bilateral trade with Turkey will reach the level approved by both countries’ officials.

Saying that SWIFT transactions are open between Turkish banks and Bank Tejarat of Iran, Basci said Iranian banks can apply to open branches in Turkey.

Also Turkish Minister of Development Cevdet Yılmaz told the Iranian minister that Ankara is ready to expedite bilateral trade with Tehran through deeper ties between the monetary institutions.

Vaezi arrived in Ankara late on Wednesday and met Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu.
