Iranian, Russian, Turkish military chiefs to meet soon: Report

“Soon, the chiefs of the general staff of Russia, Turkey, and Iran will hold a trilateral summit,” Daily Sabah quoted Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour as saying.

“They will talk about the security of the region and fighting terrorism,” he said earlier this week in Tehran, according to the report.

“The Astana meetings are going well. We have good consultations with Turkey on regional issues,” the diplomat noted.

Heading a high-ranking military delegation, Chief of the General Staff of Turkey Hulusi Akar paid an official visit to Iran last month to hold talks with senior officials of the Islamic Republic on a range of issues.

During his trip, the two sides discussed Iran-Turkey defense ties, the regional developments, cooperation on the border affairs, and the fight against terrorism.

Earlier in August, Major General Baqeri had also visited Turkey and held meetings with top Turkish officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and General Hulusi Akar.
