Iran’s interests section office to open in Jeddah in near future: Spokesman

“… (Iran and Saudi Arabia’s) interest sections offices will open in Tehran and Jeddah in the near future,” said Qassemi in his weekly press briefing on Monday.

He added, “The exact date (for opening the offices) has not yet been finalized”.

According to a document signed between the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Swiss embassy in Tehran on October 26, Switzerland will represent Iran’s interests in Saudi Arabia.

The agreement was signed by the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s director general for the Persian Gulf, Mohammad Farazmand, and the Swiss ambassador to Tehran, Markus Leitner.

Referring to recent remarks made against Iran in Riyadh at a meeting of foreign ministers and military chiefs of a Saudi-led coalition waging war against Yemen, the Iranian spokesman defended Tehran’s stance on the developments in Yemen, saying the Islamic Republic issued the “necessary warning” to regional states from the first hours the aggression started.

The Saudi regime and its allies are used to “playing blame games” on others to cover up their crimes, Qassemi said, adding, “The issues brought up at the Riyadh (meeting) are not something new and have turned into an old habit (for the Saudi regime).”

In his address to the Riyadh gathering on Sunday, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir accused Tehran of smuggling arms to Houthis in Yemen, saying they would not have continued operations without Iran’s support.

“Iran is destroying all attempts to find a solution in Yemen, which has led to the failure of all political negotiations between the government and these militias,” he claimed.
