Iraq: Saudi-Backed ISIL Opens Flood Gates of Pre-Election Terror

nsnbc : The Saudi-backed Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL) has launched a new wave of terror as Iraq prepares to hold parliamentary elections on April 30. Sunday, ISIL closed the gates of the Fallujah Dam, endangering the fresh water supply of southern and central Iraq while threatening devastation with floods. 400.000 have been displaced due to violence in Iraq’s al-Anbar province this year alone, reports the UN. Analysts stress that terrorism in Iraq is part of a wider Middle East war.

Two were killed and seven injured in shoulder fired rocket attacks in the city of Fallujah. Five terrorists were killed during clashes with security forces in Ramadi. Three of Baghdad’s areas were rocked by bomb attacks which killed five.

Local authorities in Fallujah have called on the government to launch an attack against the Saudi Arabia backed Islamic State of Iraq and Levent (ISIL) to put an end to the al-Qaeda liked fanatics reign of terror and bloodshed in the region.

On Monday, Iraq’s Minister of Water Resources, Muhamad al-Saadi, told reporters that ISIL militants had “completely closed the gates of the Fallujah Dam since Sunday morning”. By blocking the dam, the mercenaries blocked the primary source of fresh water for Iraq’s southern, and central regions.

After ISIL mercenaries seized the dam two weeks ago, the ports of the dam have repeatedly been shut and then reopened, endangering the fresh water supply in southern and central Iraq while wrecking havoc with floods when the gates are suddenly opened.

Violence in Iraq’s al-Anbar province erupted in early 2012 after Saudi Arabia reactivated old smuggling routes to funnel weapons, munitions and mercenaries via al-Anbar to Syria.

The Saudi-backed mercenaries widened the campaign with attacks against Iraqi military and police forces after Baghdad increased security in al-Anbar province along the Saudi border and along the Iraqi – Syrian border.

Analysts have repeatedly stressed that terrorism in Iraq is part of a wider Middle East war against Iraq, Lebanon and Syria.

Conflict analyst and nsnbc editor Christof Lehmann noted in several reports that the war against Syria and the Saudi (and US) backed insurgency in Al-Anbar province, fulfill a shared function; which is, to sabotage the completion and control over the Iran – Iraq – Syria gas pipeline project that would deliver gas from Iran’s PARS gas fields to the Syrian Mediterranean coast and to the European markets.

Viloence in al-Anbar increased again in December 2013 after the Iraqi military cleared out a purported “protest camp” in Ramadi, that was used as a cover for ISIL and other Saudi Arabia – backed Al-Qaeda brigades. A wave of terrorism and fighting has since spread from Ramadi to Fallujah.

In March, the ambassador of the United Nations to Iraq, Nikolay Mladenov, reported that some 400,000 people had been displaced by the fighting and terrorism in al-Anbar province since the beginning of 2014.
