Awake Goy Days of Palestine, West Bank -Israeli occupation issued on Tuesday 34 administrative detention orders ranging between three to six renewable months against Palestinians.
Lawyer of the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society Mahmoud al-Halabi said that 24 of the orders were issued against prisoners, who had already spent months or years inside Israeli jails under administrative detention.
Israeli uses administrative detention to keep Palestinians, including politicians and MPS inside prison for an unlimited period without any reasons.
As of Tuesday, there are 715 Palestinians being held under administrative detention inside Israeli jails. Some of them have served more than a decade under renewable administrative detention.
Palestinian prisoners often protest their administrative detentions through hunger strikes, such as Bilal Kayid, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), who has been on hunger strike for at least 28 days protesting being put in administrative detention the day he was scheduled to be released after serving more than 14 years in prison.
Israel considers the majority of Palestinian political parties to be “terrorist organisations.” As a result, most Palestinians who are involved in the political life in the occupied Palestinian territory risk being imprisoned by Israeli authorities.
