Israeli forces attack West Bank women’s day rally

Israeli regime forces have fired stun grenades and tear gas at dozens of Palestinian protesters marking the International Women’s Day near a West Bank checkpoint, injuring at least 11 women.

During the Saturday incident, the female protesters suffered from tear gas inhalation after the Israeli occupation forces attacked their rally at the Qalandiya checkpoint in the central West Bank, Ma’an news agency reported.

The Qalandiya checkpoint separates Ramallah, the administrative capital of the occupied West Bank, from Quds (Jerusalem), which has been Palestine’s historical capital before the Zionist occupation of the country.

The female protesters had attempted to march past the infamous checkpoint in an effort to assert their right to enter Palestinian capital, organizers of the march were cited as saying by local media outlets.

“We are trying to revive the role of women in the popular struggle [against Israel], to maintain the Arab identity of Jerusalem, and to boycott Israeli goods,” Intissar al-Wazir, head of the General Union of Palestinian women said.

“The march towards the Qalandiya checkpoint today confirms the participation of women in the struggle against the Israeli occupation,” added Khalida Jarrar, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council.
