Clashes erupted between Israeli troops and Palestinians on Monday, after Israeli forces killed three Palestinians in a raid on a refugee camp in the village of Qalandiya, north of East al-Quds (Jerusalem).
Israeli forces raided Qalandiya refugee camp to arrest a former Palestinian political prisoner. The attack also left dozens of others injured.
Palestinian medical sources reported that 32-year-old Robin al-Abed and Younis Jihad Abu al-Sheikh Jahjouh, 22, were killed by live rounds fired by the Israeli troops overnight on Sunday.
Jihad Aslan, 20, another Palestinian youth died Monday morning of his injuries after being pronounced brain dead at a hospital in the city of Ramallah.
Local sources said the recently released Palestinian prisoner, Yousef al-Khatib, who had spent ten years in an Israeli jail, was kidnapped by the Israeli army.
Following the unrest, the Palestinian Authority (PA) called off the US-mediated direct talks with Israel to protest the killings.
“What happened today in Qalandiya shows the real intentions of the Israeli government,” Nabil Abu Rudeina, the spokesman for the PA Acting Chief Mahmoud Abbas, said.
The Israeli military often raids Palestinian houses in the West Bank to arrest activists and civilians, mostly without any charges.
According to Palestinian rights groups, over a dozen Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the first half of 2013. Israeli troops also kidnapped nearly 1,800 Palestinians, including women and children, during the same period.
