Italian scientists make superconductor breakthrough

(ANSA) – Rome, April 4 – Italian researchers may have discovered how to use superconductors to transport electricity from solar pannels all across the world without losing any energy along the way. According to research published recently in Science magazine, the process may lead to superconductivity at room temperature, which scientists say is key to optimizing the transport of energy across long distances. For example, carrying energy directly from a solar plant in the Sahara Desert to consumers in Latin America could become feasible.

The research team was led by Stefano Dal Conte of the Universita’ Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Brescia who collaborated with labs in Trieste using high-speed pulse lasers to locate microscopic interactions in superconductivity.
