Japan has become the latest country to hint at its intention to ignore US-led oil sanctions on Iran, after South Korea’s recent dismissal of Washington’s bid to boycott the Iranian crude

“We are not considering banning imports,” Japan Times quoted a Japanese Foreign Ministry official as saying on Friday.

On New Year’s Eve, US President Barack Obama signed into law fresh economic sanctions against Iran’s Central Bank in an apparent bid to punish foreign companies and banks that do business with the Iranian financial institution.

The bill aims to prevent refiners across the world from paying for Iran’s oil. The European Union is also considering measures that would forbid its member states from importing the crude.

Iran’s Central Bank has accounts at major Japanese banks for oil trade settlements. If US sanctions are implemented, the Japanese government may have to freeze those accounts. It means Japan’s oil imports from Iran would “completely stop,” a Finance Ministry official said, suggesting this is a situation the government wants to avoid.

Japan’s Finance Minister Jun Azumi, who is due to meet with US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner during an upcoming Tokyo visit, is now expected to call for the exemption of Japanese banks from US penalties.

On Thursday, Japanese officials also expressed their concern about the possible negative global economic impact of increasing US and European pressure on Iran over its nuclear program.

An official at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said an embargo on Iranian oil would lead to a sharp rise in crude oil prices, adding that the US must consider the negative impact of such a development on the global economy.

Tokyo’s wariness over any escalation of pressure on the Islamic Republic echoes South Korea’s earlier announcement that it would purchase around 10 percent of its needed crude from Iran in 2012, exceeding Seoul’s oil imports from Iran in 2011.

South Korea, which is the world’s fifth largest oil importer, announced plans to buy 200,000 barrels per day (bpd) of Iranian crude this year, a little more than the 190,000 bpd in 2011.

US sanctions, as well as unilateral embargoes imposed on Iran’s energy and financial sectors by Britain and Canada came after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued a report on the Iranian nuclear program early in November, accusing Tehran of seeking to weaponize its nuclear technology.

Despite the widely publicized claims by the US, Israel and some of their European allies that Iran’s nuclear program may include a military diversion, Iran insists on its civilian nature, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and an IAEA member it has the right to develop and acquire nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

How are you going to penalize somebody when they already spent the money on crude?

Not only is the USA the “world police”,
but now we are the “oil referees” too, with whistle in mouth, ready to throw out a flag…
At face value–since PressTV is hardly a reliable source–an unintended consequence of a US economy that is too weak to sustain the necessary level of military power, is that a US ally, such as Japan, which buys so much of the US’ debt, is in a position to claim an exemption.

This is not entirely uncooperative/mischievous behaviour on Japan’s part, since Japan cannot buy US debt, if Japans’s economy is impeded by an embargo of Iranian oil, upon which Japan depends so much and is not helped due to the loss of Fukushima, etc.

The US must now re-industrialise its economy, by not reinvesting in China, etc., and bring those lines of employment which are not particularly well paid, yet increase the US’ fiscal capability, back to the US, where millions of US citizens, are now more prepared to work for the market rates of pay, that they were hitherto, disinclined to accept.
And while Japan is at it, maybe they ought to ban GE’s nuclear power plants that have made almost a third of their country permamently uninhabitable?

It’s GE’s fault for building such plants where the spent fuel rods are permamently stored above a reactor than can blow up and scatter it for hundreds of miles.

GE nuked/contaminated Japan much much more worse than both of the atomic bombs did together dropped on them in WW II.

- How to Activate the Constitutional Militia in Your Area
  
  Once you have received and read the materials that may have accompanied this document , and have decided that the constitutional militia needs to be activated in your area, there are several things for you to do:
  [] Try to find like-minded persons in your area. Ask around. Try patriotic organizations, such as the VFW and the American Legion. Sound out people at gun shows and gun stores. Ask if there is already a militia activated in your area or if anyone is considering it. Put out notices for interested persons to contact you.
  [] Form a Safety Committee. Having found a few like-minded persons, meet together, share materials, and agree to issue a militia call-up.
  [] Pick a suitable date, time, and place for the first muster. It should commemorate some historical event. Ideally, it should be in a highly visible location, within the municipal limits of a major community, and on public property.
  [] Try to have a notable speaker or stage an event that will appeal to the media. Be creative. Although the first muster will primarily be an organizing meeting, it is also a media event and should be staged that way.
  [] Publicize the muster. Post public notices in the local newspaper of record, on the courthouse public notices bulletin board, and in the newsletters of sympathetic civic groups. Mail and fax press releases to the media, especially talk radio stations. Try to get on as a guest of major talk radio programs, and call in announcements of the muster during listener call-in periods. The notices should answer the questions: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How. Send along supporting documentation.
  [] Compile patriot mailing lists. Enter them into a computer database if possible, or prepare mailing label masters for producing self-adhesive mailing labels for repeated use.
  [] Prepare draft by-laws, regulations, and guidelines. Adapt them to your local situation. Make enough copies for the number of persons you expect to attend, and try to get the documents out to them in advance to save time trying to read them at the first meeting.
  [] Mail announcements to as many people in your area as you can. The advertisements and radio broadcasts are important, but many people will also need something in their hands that they can read that will motivate them to attend. They need to come with some common understanding of what a militia is, how it can be organized, and what it might accomplish. You might include the draft by-laws and regulations in the mailing if you can afford the postage and copying costs.
  [] Invite local officials and representatives of military and law enforcement organizations to attend. Try to involve them from the outset, to reassure them and win their support.

Collect contributions toward the expenses of the muster and to pay for notices of future meetings. Agree on the date and place for the next meetings of the committees and perhaps of the next muster. Adjourn the muster.
  [] Followup publicity. Issue press releases to the media. Visit reporters and explain what you are doing, providing them with literature. Get on talk radio and television.
  [] Assist in activating the militia in neighboring counties. Encourage attendees from neighboring counties to go back and activate the militia in their own counties. Send organizing teams on a tour of the state and nation to find and motivate local leaders to do the same. Establish correspondence committees linking local militia units at all levels.
  [] Set up regular training sessions and camps. Initially, each of these may need to serve a multi- county region. Shooting ranges, especially those that can simulate combat. Tactical military training. Police training. Emergency and medical training. Survival training. Seminars on constitutional law, on jury powers and duties, on investigation of official and corporate corruption and abuse, and on reform measures.
  [] Set up an alert system. Establish and exercise a telephone tree. If feasible, set up neighborhood sirens or other sonic alert signals. Establish alternative communications networks, such as amateur radio, line-of-sight comm links, visual signals, and couriers. Establish defensive perimeters around persons or organizations that might be particularly subject to attack. And establish mobility and secure communications in the event area security cannot be maintained.
  [] Roll back unconstitutional legislation. Work on legislators. Pursue cases in court. Get rid of abusive officials. Go after the special interests that are the ultimate source of corruption and reduce their power.
