Johns Hopkins University Professor Found Dead In Baltimore Inner Harbor

(NBC)  Police have identified the woman whose body was pulled from the Inner Harbor early Thursday morning.

Professor Elizabeth O’Hearn, 53, was a faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the neurology and neuroscience departments, according to her LinkedIn and Facebook pages.

Investigators said they hope an autopsy will help provide some answers as to how O’Hearn died, but the results could take several days.

Police said someone spotted her body floating face down in the water near the 2300 block of Boston Street in Canton at about 4:45 a.m. Thursday.

O’Hearn lived in a gated condominium community not far from where her body was discovered.

Neighbors like Dakota Johnson said they’re especially concerned because O’Hearn’s is the second body found in the water in less than two months.

“It’s pretty random, you would think, but then there’s, like, one body, then multiple bodies,” Johnson said. “The likelihood of, like, dying in that water seems slim because it’s so shallow right there … it’s not very deep. I know that, like, things wash up, but you don’t expect it to be bodies and stuff like that.”

According to her Facebook page, O’Hearn earned her graduate degree at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1985 after graduating from Yale University. She had been at Hopkins since 1994.

Early in the investigation, police said they do not suspect foul play.

WBAL-TV 11 News tried to reach O’Hearn’s family but was unsuccessful.
