Kenya court to rule on poll results

The chief justice said on Saturday, the Supreme Court will rule no later than 5 p.m. (1400 GMT) on Saturday on whether to uphold the presidential election win of Uhuru Kenyatta or order a new vote.

Uhuru Kenyatta was proclaimed the winner of the March 4 poll. But outgoing Prime Minister Raila Odinga has challenged the outcome.

He claims that voting was marred by irregularities.

Meanwhile, Kenyatta is facing charges of international crimes against humanity over the unrest that followed the 2007 election.

If the high court affirms the election results, the son of Kenya’s first president will be sworn in on April 9.

The court can also order a new election based on Odinga’s claims. Some parties have been planning to converge outside the court, but police have warned no gatherings would be tolerated.
