A British TV executive has died after being knocked down by a motorbike in Qatar.
Kerry Rome was the first technical director at Al Jazeera’s English-language station.
The 33-year-old, from Thurlby, Lincolnshire, was hit as she crossed a road in the early hours in Qatar’s capital Doha. Police believe her death, on April 20, was a tragic accident.
Tragic accident: Kerry Rome, 33, died after she was hit by a motorcycle as she crossed the road in Doha, Qatar, where she worked
Police believe her death, which happened in the early hours of April 20, was a tragic accident.
In a moving tribute, Ms Rome’s husband Mark Harris, 35, said his wife had ‘lived life to the max’.
He said: ‘Words can’t do her justice. She used to take me on a rollercoaster ride, always saying, “Come on Mark, next step”.
High-flier: Kerry was the first female technical director of live news at Al Jazeera English
‘Wherever she went, she made friends with the locals and children loved her and would come up to her all the time.’
The couple had married in an Elvis-themed wedding in Las Vegas last August.
Ms Rome was born and brought up in the village of Thurlby, Lincolnshire.
She moved to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2008, where she was the first female technical director of live news at Al Jazeera English.
Last October, she was promoted to the station’s head office in Doha.
Her mother Margaret and her stepfather Mike Dench paid tribute to Kerry.
Mrs Dench said: ‘Kerry had such an amazing life and an appetite for life. She was so bubbly.
‘The whole family just miss her so much. We are still in shock.’
Ms Rome was also the much-loved daughter of Roy Rome, who lives in Peterborough, and youngest sister of Kirsty and Emma, as well as the aunt of Kirsty’s children Daisy, two, and Harry, four.
Mr and Mrs Dench said Kerry particularly enjoyed travelling to places like Bali and Vietnam, but would mix with everyone she met.
‘She loved people, especially children. She was always happy and had a smile on her face,’ Mrs Dench told the Stamford Mercury.
‘Everyone used to say she made them feel better and we have had so many messages of condolence from all the people she touched.’
Her mother, who lives in Thurlby, also said she was incredibly proud of her daughter.
‘She was such a vivacious person. Considering how young she was, she has done so much in her life,’ she said.
‘When we went out there and saw what life was like, we realised how strong a person she was.’
Ms Rome’s sister Kirsty said: ‘We were all really close, she loved her family. She did more in her 33 years than most do in a lifetime.’
Promotion: Ms Rome moved to the Qatari capital Doha after being promoted to Al Jazeera English head office
More than 100 of Ms Rome’s colleagues held a memorial event for her in Doha which raised over £600 for an orang-utan sanctuary in Borneo that she had visited

Mrs Dench said: ‘She loved her work and got such a buzz from it. I feel so proud of her and what she did.
In a tribute, Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, the director general of Al Jazeera English, said: ‘Kerry was dedicated to her profession and always gave her best to the job that she loved.’
Kerry had last visited the UK in Christmas, 2010, and had been due to return for a fortnight this week.
After attending the village primary school in Thurlby, Kent went on to study at Bourne Grammar School, Stamford College and Buckinghamshire University, where she gained a degree in film with media studies and video production.
Her first job was at Ideal World in Peterborough and she also worked for Snatch It, Granada TV and Setanta Sports before going to work for Al Jazeera.
A private family cremation will be held on Monday.
It will be followed by a memorial service at St Firmin’s Church, Thurlby at 1.30pm and the family hope as many people as possible attend.
Donations will be taken for When You Wish Upon A Star.

This is so sad, such a waste of young life. I have been here in Qatar for 20 years, the traffic can be appalling and very dangerous at times. Obviously this has been a tragic accident of which I don’t know the details but if there is anything that I can do to help her family at home then feel free to message me via the mailonline . God bless xxx

So sorry for her family and friends and her husband, of course. She sounds like a really special person, and I hope that, in all their sadness they can take comfort in knowing that she really did live her life to the full and touch other people’s lives.
