The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) has seen a surge recently, as the group has migrated from the deep South to northern places in the US.

This new strategy, to “work on a unified Klan and/or alliance” just in time for summer vacation, is a dream of Brent Walker, imperial wizard for the United Dixie White Knights (UDWK).

This sentiment is shared throughout the organization as it turns to the political arena to win America to nationalism, a desire of the KKK for nearly a century.

What has contributed to the need for expedition toward this goal was the election of President Obama, and the fact that an African-American has served two terms in office.

And so in this digital age, the KKK have made themselves available to potential new followers by making the application process easy to access online. In addition, merchandise from the organization can be purchased on a plethora of websites .

They have flooded social media , internet and terrestrial radio , and even command a strong presence on platforms such as YouTube .

Mark Potok, expert on extremism for the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) said that the KKK has shifted from the “atrocities” of the “Klan of the ‘60s” to an engagement in “political violence”.

Potok’s words echo the sentiment of historical author David Cunningham who once wrote that “while the Klan generally doesn’t openly advocate violence… [they] have the sort of ‘other’ model of violence which is creating a culture that supports the commission of violence in the name of these ideas.”

In modern times, the KKK mostly operates independently, with some of the biggest problems stemming from whether or not to align with the neo-Nazis or wear their robes and white sheets in public; however their message of “segregation for forever” is made loud and clear in video posts calling for racial diversity and scaring their followers into believing a “white genocide” is coming.

Which makes this election season a big deal to supremacist nationalists nationwide.

Earlier this year, David Duke, former Grand Wizard of the KKK and current alternative media broadcaster, said Donald Trump’s speeches have “strong similarities” with Duke’s public stance.

Scott Shepard, former KKK Grand Wizard, told the media: “Their campaigns are pretty much parallel when I look at it. Trump won’t take a direct stand in Israel, and these are the things white supremacists are looking at. They’re latching onto him because his campaign is pretty much in line with their beliefs.”
