At the Google headquarters in California, Raul Murillo Diaz was arrested for arson, but that is just the beginning of the story.

Diaz told the Mountain View Police Department (MVPD) that “Google was watching” and that upset him. In journals, Diaz had kept accounts of Google “tracking” him.

According to authorities, Diaz is suspected as throwing Molotov cocktails at the Google Street car, a self-driving vehicle. In addition, Diaz had “materials to make a pipe bomb in his vehicle” at the time of his arrest.

Google has a reputation of watching users thanks to alternative media, but the company’s privacy policies do not help the issue.

Alma Whitten, director of privacy for products and engineering for Google, explained : “Our privacy policies have always allowed us to combine information from different products with your account — effectively using your data to provide you with a better service. However, we’ve been restricted in our ability to combine your YouTube and search histories with other information in your account. Our new privacy policy gets rid of those inconsistencies so we can make more of your information available to you when using Google.”

Thanks to Google Maps the company knows where users are at any given time. Combine that with Google Home , and the search engine giant can live alongside users in their home, playing their favorite music, reading their news and answering any questions with a built-in search that is activated when the user signs in.

Three years ago, app developer Dan Nolan discovered that the Google Play apps were sending purchaser names, addresses and email information to the creator without his initiation – appearing to be more of a conscious intention rather than a design flaw.

Nolan explained: “Every App purchase you make on Google Play gives the developer your name, suburb and email address with no indication that this information is actually being transferred. With the information I have available to me through the checkout portal I could track down and harass users who left negative reviews or refunded the app purchase.”

Nolan believes that tens of millions of google customers are most likely affected by this “flaw”. He said that “this impacts every person who purchased an App on the Play Store.”

As of now, customers must give their personal information during the checkout process whether the App is free or purchased and with thousands of Apps available, “there are millions of people who buy Androids . . . That’s a lot of people having their personal information handed over without them knowing.”

This little known fact puts customer information at risk of being sold as a source of revenue to the developers. Unsuspecting customers would never know that this was occurring without this exposure.
