An 80-year-old man drove his car and caravan the wrong way for more than 12 kilometres along a key Melbourne bridge and freeway, police say.
The man allegedly drove his sedan and caravan onto the Westgate Freeway incorrectly via the off ramp at Williamstown Road about 10am on Sunday (AEDT).
The man then drove across the Westgate Bridge and through the Domain tunnel, where police belive he collided with up to three vehicles.
A truck driver told the man he was travelling in the wrong direction, then helped him by blocking traffic so the man could perform a U-turn on the freeway near Toorak Road, police said.
Police intercepted the man, from the south-western Victorian town of Chapple Vale, a short time later in Grange Road, Toorak, and were questioning him on Sunday afternoon.
