TWO men died in separate fatalities in Victoria yesterday afternoon.
An 73-year-old Seville man, who went to the aid of a friend who was bogged, died after being run over when the vehicle gained traction and plunged over a three-metre embankment. The driver of the car, aged in his 50s, was not injured.
Police said the man was helping his friend free his car, when it appears the man accelerated over an embankment, crushing the elderly man underneath the vehicle about 2pm.The man died at the scene.
In Woodvale, an 81-year-old Sebastian man died after he veered onto the wrong side of the road and hit a pole at Bendigo Raywood Road about 3.45pm. He died at the scene. Reports will be prepared for the State Coroner.
The deaths take the state’s road toll to 214 compared with 212 for the same time last year.
