Matt Golinski’s neighbours angry at ambo delay

Neighbours are angry it took so long for an ambulance to arrive to help Sunshine Coast television chef Matt Golinski who was badly burned in the house fire that claimed his family.

Official logs show the first ambulance arrived at the Tewantin home at 3.59am on Sunday morning — 28 minutes after the first 000 call at 3.31am.

Mr Golinski suffered burns to 40 percent of his body in the fire that claimed his wife Rachel Golinski and three little girls.

Neighbour Gary Siljac tried to comfort Mr Golinski and helped the paramedic who finally arrived from Maroochydore.

“Where were they? It was an eternity before an ambulance came and then it was a guy on his own. We have an ambulance station only a few minutes away,” Mr Siljac told the Courier Mail.

“The poor bloke (Matt) was burnt from top to bottom and was screaming in pain and there was nothing we could do for him.”

Mr Siljac told Nine News Mr Golinski’s main concern was for his family.

“He was begging for his family that was in the house. He couldn’t stop talking about them, which was heartbreaking.”

A Department of Community Safety spokeswoman confirmed to the newspaper that the Queensland Ambulance Service had experienced “high operational volumes” at the time.

She said the three other ambulances in the area were responding to other cases.

The ambulance service eventually allocated four ambulances to the case.

The first police unit arrived at 3.47am and the first fire unit at 3.41am.

Mr Golinski was taken to Nambour Hospital suffering severe burns, and was later airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital, where he was in a critical but stable condition on Monday afternoon.

As well as being a regular contributor to the Channel Ten show Ready, Steady, Cook, Mr Golinksi runs catering company The Rolling Dolmade.
