Join us for a live conversation at 4PM UK time (3PM GMT) with Rian Thum, a historian of Islam in China at the University of Manchester, to discuss the history of the Uyghurs and Chinese-Muslim relations.
Thum is a specialist in the history and anthropology of Muslims in China. His prize winning book ‘The Sacred Routes of Uyghur History’ examines the central role of sacred sites and local Islamic texts in the maintenance of Uyghur identity.
Thum’s writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Foreign Affairs and the Nation.
