US stocks opened flat Tuesday after setting fresh records on Monday as strong second-quarter earnings report from Goldman Sachs was offset by a sagging performance from Coca-Cola.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 5.70 (0.04 per cent) at 15,489.96.
The broad-based S&P 500 added 0.82 (0.05 per cent) at 1,683.32, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite picked up 2.45 (0.07 per cent) at 3,609.94.
Goldman’s profits more than doubled, mainly on its own investment and trading gains, but its shares traded slightly lower.
Coca-Cola said US sales were hurt by rainy and cooler spring weather, driving its profits slightly lower. Coke shares were flat.
