Monday TV: Louisville-Michigan NCAA title game vs. ‘Dancing with the Stars’

On April 7, there’s something for everyone on TV. Sports fans are extremely excited about the Michigan vs. Louisville match-up in the 2013 NCAA title game. For viewers who prefer the dance floor to the basketball court, “Dancing with the Stars” airs on ABC.

Over on CBS, all eyes will be on Atlanta, home of the 2013 NCAA Final Four. During the weekend, TV viewers tuned in to the Division I men’s basketball Final Four games in record numbers. More than 14 million people watched Louisville defeat Wichita State on April 6. Later in the evening, 17 million fans saw Michigan defeat Syracuse. Both games were the most-watched in eight years. Louisville and Michigan fought hard to the bitter end and won in the last minutes, making the games incredibly exciting for fans.

CBS is banking on another record-breaking audience when Louisville takes on Michigan on Monday night. Travis Tritt will kick off the highly anticipated NCAA title game by singing the national anthem in the Georgia Dome. Coverage on CBS begins at 9:00 p.m. EST and tip-off is set for 9:23 p.m.

For TV viewers who are more excited by salsa steps that slam dunks, “Dancing with the Stars” continues on April 7 with a “Best Year of their Life” theme. Each couple will dance to a song of the celebrities’ choosing that represents a memorable time or experience in their life. In addition, the stars must perform a brief solo during their routine.

On Tuesday, one more couple will be eliminated during the Results Show. Country superstar Brad Paisley will perform “Southern Comfort Zone.” Plus, in their first national television appearance together, international superstars Andrea Bocelli and Jennifer Lopez perform a sensual new rendition of the classic Latin song, “Quizas, Quizas, Quizas,” featured on Bocelli’s new album “Passione.” “Dancing with the Stars” airs at 8 p.m. EST on Monday and at 9 p.m. EST on Tuesday on ABC.

As for potential ratings, look for a slam dunk for CBS. The 2012 title game pulled in close to 21 million viewers, when the Kentucky Wildcats took on the Kansas Jayhawks. Last week’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars” pulled in a respectable audience of close to 14 million. With Kevin Ware from Louisville still very much in the news, CBS could pull in its biggest title game audience ever.
