Mozambique to discuss future of oil and gas projects with international partners

nsnbc : Mozambique’s National Hydrocarbons Company (ENH) announced that the government will host an international meeting analyzing the future of the oil and gas industry in Mozambique on Thursday and Friday. The meeting is preceded on Wednesday by the Local Content Day to allow reflection on the latest developments and perspectives of legislation and participation of local companies in the national oil and gas industry value chain.

The meeting will be held with the involvement of the government, industry stakeholders, partner companies and financial institutions. It is sponsored by international companies linked to the sector – ExxonMobil, Anadarko, Mozambique LNG, BP, TechnipFMC, Sasol, Siemens, Baker Hughes GE, Air Products, Subsea7 and Enmar.

Among others, the meeting will discuss topics such as the situation of the oil and gas industry in Mozambique, the government’s priorities in attracting investment in the sector, priority projects, prospective new areas of research and production of oil and gas and of transforming Mozambique into a Southern Africa gas and energy hub.

Mozambique is poised to become the world’s third-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by the mid-2020. Mozambique is – in other words – also poised to become a major rival of Qatar – the world’s premier LNG exporter.

While the conference doesn’t discuss the subject, there are security analysts who would like to see an investigation into the increased activities of Islamist militants with alleged links to al-Shabaab in northern Mozambique and networks in Qatar.
