Murder-accused Frenchman to apply for bail

A French backpacker charged with murdering a man in Broome on Christmas Day is expected to apply for bail.

Thomas Camus, 22, is accused of fatally stabbing Kristopher Eric Dixon, 32, outside the Bungalow Bar in the early hours of Christmas morning.

He was originally charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm but police have now upgraded the seriousness of the offence.

Mr Dixon, of the nearby mining community of South Hedland, was allegedly involved in a brawl with several people before he was fatally wounded.

Camus made a brief appearance via video link in the Broome Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

He will face the Stirling Garden Magistrate’s Court in Perth via video link on January 18 and is expected to apply for bail.

Three other men – aged 25, 29 and 32 – have been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and are due to appear in court on January 16.
