The North Carolina bathroom bill appears to be getting a makeover thanks to pressure applied by the real possibility that the 2017 NBA All-Star Game might not come to their state.

The Charlotte Hornets tweeted a statement condemning “discrimination in any form” and reiterated that they will “continue to ensure that all fans, players and employees feel welcome while at work or attending NBA games…”

Local media is reporting that a new draft of the infamous bill is being proposed that reflects a compromise in the necessity to force people to use the restroom corresponding to their birth gender when using public facilities.

New language states that the requirements for transgenders would be reduced to providing a certification of sex reassignment surgery. Documents to apply for the necessary paperwork can be obtained through governmental means. If the individual has had reassignment surgery in NC, they would not have to show their papers.

Surprisingly it was the threat of the NBA refusing to come to NC which appears to have inspired this “compromise”.

Prior to this openness to change, the UK Foreign Office (UKFO) had issued a warning to British citizens against traveling to America’s Southern pride states for fear of discrimination against LGBT people due to “local laws and customs”.

The UKFO stated on their website: “The U.S. is an extremely diverse society and attitudes towards LGBT people differ hugely across the country. LGBT travelers may be affected by legislation passed recently in the states of North Carolina and Mississippi.”

And all in response to NC’s passage of HB2 which placed a ban on persons using public restrooms that do not correspond with their birth gender.

Because of these bathroom birthers, celebrities like Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr and Pearl Jam have canceled concerts in North Carolina; and in the city of Raleigh, $3 million has been lost due to a lack of tourism and business cancellations.
