Netanyahu Gives Green Light for New Settlements in West Bank and Jerusalem

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Benjamin Netanyahu,the Zionist government president, declared, on Wednesday (4/4), that he intends to keep three random settlements in the West Bank and find a solution for the fourth one, according to a statement issued by his office.

« I intend, in the coming days, to present the recommendations made by the Defense Minister Ehud Barak to provide a legal license to Brochan, Sansana, and Rihalim settlements in West Bank », Netanyahu said .

The prime minister also asked the Attorney General to find a solution to Albana neighborhood to prevent its destruction in reference to the fourth settlement near Ramallah, according to the statement.

Meanwhile, the Committee for the Defense of Silwan town stated that the occupation authorities completed the building of a new settlement near 7 Arches hotel located on the Olives Mount overlooking Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City in Jerusalem.

The settlement building activities have finished on Tuesday, according to the committee, pointing that this place, that is considered one of the most sensitive places in Jerusalem, has been quietly turned into a settlement.

Furthermore, settlers started building a new settlement in Umm Al-Arais in Yata town south of al-Khalil although the court ruled its evacuation to give it back to its owners, witnesses said.

The witnesses added that the settlers aimed to enlarge the settlement protected by the IOF from the Palestinians’ reaction who came to prevent such challenging act.

At the same time, new meetings are arranged between PA and occupation government to discuss the resumption of the peace process.

Fayyad, the Palestinian delegation head is going to meet his Zionist counterpart Netanyahu to transmit Abbas’ letter about the stalled peace processes and peace accords, Palestinian officials confirmed.

The Palestinian delegation has also included Saeb Erekat and Yasser Abed Rabbo who is going to meet his Zionist counterpart Yitzhak Molcho in the few coming days, official Palestinian media affirmed.

Israel’s Jerusalem municipality plans to build more than 50,000 (updated Dec 3, 2011: 85.000) new homes in the city’s occupied eastern sector over two decades:

  • 23,628 homes have already been approved, 20,263 in East Jerusalem and 3,365 in the west.
  • 13,824 are pending review, 12,819 in East Jerusalem and 1,005 in the west.
  • 23,266 housing units are still in planning stages, 19,281 in the east and 3,985 in the west.



Of these, the municipality plans:

  • 10,366 homes in northern East Jerusalem, including illegal Israeli settlement Pisgat Zeev and Palestinian town Beit Hanina.
  • 5,239 homes in southern East Jerusalem, including Gilo settlement and Palestinian district Beit Safafa.
  • 4,886 new units in central eastern Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan and Jerusalem’s Old City.
