New poll: 44% of Democrats, Democratic-leaning independents don’t want Biden in 2024

The results come amid sinking job-approval ratings for Biden, including those in the new national poll, by NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist.

The poll showed 44% of Americans approve of the job Biden is doing as president and 49% disapprove. The numbers compare to 45% approve/46% disapprove in the group’s October poll.

In the new poll, 36% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents said their party will have a better chance of winning the White House with Biden at the top of the ticket and 20% were unsure.

When those surveyed were asked the same question about former President Trump, 50% of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents said a Trump ticket has the best chance of recapturing the presidency, while 35% want someone else and 14% say they are unsure.

The survey of 1,209 adults living in the U.S. was conducted Oct. 18-22 by the Marist Poll, sponsored in partnership with NPR and PBS NewsHour.
