Nick Kyrgios destroys American rising star JJ Wolf at US Open

Greek Australian Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios defeated American rising star J.J. Wolf on Saturday (AEST) and makes his way into the fourth round of the US Open for a possible showdown with World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev.

‘It was a very tough match for me, JJ is a home town favourite so I had to be on my guns today,’ Kyrgios said.

‘I’m happy to be playing Medvedev, if he is winning.’

Nick Kyrgios took out Wolf convincingly with a 6-4 6-2 6-3 victory in just under two hours with minimal fuss.

Former American player James Blake tweeted: “That was a tremendous and professional performance by @NickKyrgios playing like an absolute champ in a tough environment.”

Post match Kyrgios referred to his on-court antics and his team.

“I’ve definitely grown some thick skin in this game, I’ve had a lot of criticism and I’m doing it for my team.

“We have all been away from home for a while now. I’m playing for people back at home too.”

Kyrgios went on to heap praise retiring Serena Williams who was defeated by Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, while his match against Wolf was on court.

“It was a special moment, even myself and JJ looked up at the screen,” he said.

“She has has had a career that no one else will emulate, she once in a generation athlete, I wouldn’t put myself in the same category ever – it was a hell of a way to go out.”
